The history of Cuervo y Sobrinos dates back to 1862, when jeweller Ramón Fernandez Cuervo opened his first jewellery shop on Calle de la Amistad in Havana. This shop was the forerunner of Cuervo y Sobrinos, which was not founded until later, namely in 1882, when Don Ramon was joined by his nephews. Hence the name Cuervo y Sobrinos (sobrinos = nephews).
