The Swiss Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Lou Gehrig Limited Edition 01 754 7785 4091-Set watch impresses with its attractive retro pilot style and excellent workmanship. This model will serve you excellently not only in the clouds, but also in everyday wear. This limited edition, dedicated to the famous baseball player Lou Gehrig, was produced in just 2,130 pieces for the whole world.
The case of the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Lou Gehrig Limited Edition 0175477854091-Set is made of stainless steel and is completed with a leather strap. An extra nylon NATO strap is also included. The lunette is decorated with the typical scalloping that symbolizes the turbine of an aircraft engine. Inside the case, the Oris 754 Swiss mechanical movement (based on the Sellita SW200-1) with automatic winding works reliably. This movement has 26 stone settings and operates at a frequency of 28,800 semi-frequencies per hour (4 Hz). The movement's operation can be observed thanks to a transparent mineral glass dial. There is also a date display in the form of a fourth hand.
The perfectly clear dial, rendered in a retro pilot style, is protected by an arched sapphire crystal that is maximally scratch-resistant. An internal anti-reflective coating ensures legibility in bright light. In darkness and low light conditions, the Superluminova luminescence on the hands and indices is at your service. The water resistance of this watch is 50 m ( 5 ATM), so it can also handle contact with water, such as a shower or rain. The water resistance is supported by a screw-down crown.
This limited edition was made in honor of the famous baseball player Lou Gehrig. The number of pieces in the limited edition of 2130 refers to the incredible 2,130 games he played in a row during his 15 seasons in America's top baseball league (now MLB) - that is, without a single absence. On June 1, 1925, he joined the New York Yankees and won 6 World Series titles with the club over 15 seasons - the final between the winner of the American League and National League, the top American baseball competition. His reliability and durability earned him the nickname "The Iron Horse". His career ended after an incredible 2,130 games on April 30, 1939, with a game against the Washington Senators. After that, Lou Gehrig told the manager that he was taking himself out of the lineup because he felt he was no longer helping the team. The reason was an unexplained weakness he had begun to feel during 1938. It later turned out to be ALS, a serious neurodegenerative disease that gradually paralyses the muscles. In the US, the disease is still sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease. After the diagnosis was announced, he gave one of the most famous sports speeches in history at Yankee Stadium on 4 July 1939. Lou Gehrig died in 1941 at the age of just 37. The watch bears design elements referencing Lou Gehrig. The brown leather strap with double stitching resembles a baseball glove, and the date ring highlights the number 4 that Gerhig wore on his jersey. The combination of blue and white used on the dial or on the NATO strap again refers to the colours of the New York Yankees. Oris will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this limited edition to The Lou and Eleanor Gehrig Family Foundation, which supports ALS awareness and research.

The Oris brand was founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein, where he is based today. The brand gradually grew to one of the largest employers in the region and in 1925 introduced its first wristwatch. Other company expansions and milestones followed, such as the automatic watch in 1952 or the first chronometer in 1967. In the 1970s, the company survived the so-called "Quartz crisis" and since the 1980s has been fully dedicated to producing quality mechanical watches is a chronograph, or lunar phase. All this at the most competitive prices, which will allow the widest possible group of watch fans to own a high-quality mechanical watch.
The Oris brand still adheres to this philosophy, and the highest quality of exclusively mechanical machines can be found in all major lines - Culture, Aviation, Diving and Motorsport. A demonstration of the brand's sophistication is also several of its own in-house machines, the development of which is still ongoing.
Helveti.eu is an authorized reseller and specialist of the Oris brand.
