The Cricket Nautical was the result of research conducted by 3 experts who combined their knowledge and experience and together with Manufacture Vulcain developed the very first dive watch that would not only incorporate a non-stop dive timing system built directly into the dial, but also trigger an alarm to signal the diver that it was time to return to the surface!
In 1961, Vulcain boasted that it was the only watch manufacturer to offer a diving watch equipped with a water alarm - in other words, an alarm that could be heard underwater. With a triple case that acted as a resonance chamber, the Cricket Nautical reliably signalled when it was time to come back up. Purists among diving enthusiasts, fans of mental arithmetic and spreadsheets will be inclined to its functional capabilities. Vintage watch lovers, on the other hand, will appreciate its distinctive aesthetic.
Like its predecessor, the Cricket Nautical stands out for its ample dimensions for its time, with a diameter of 42 mm making it easy to use the watch and read the dial underwater. To determine decompression times, there are two dials placed one above the other - one fixed and the other rotatable, adjustable via a special crown at the 4 o'clock position. Depending on the length of the dive and the depth set on the dials, the rectangular aperture displays the stop times required at typical depths of 9, 6 and 3 metres when coming back to the surface after a longer underwater trip.
