SILENTIUM PRO VITA — “SILENCE FOR LIFE”

This special edition pays tribute to the wristwatches and wall clocks known as “Radio Room” (also known as “RR” or “RRO”), which were used by naval radio operators in the early 20th century. At that time, accurate timekeeping at sea was literally a matter of survival. The history of these timepieces began after the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912. Nearby vessels failed to pick up the distress call because radio operators were either off duty or the radio frequencies were overwhelmed by routine communications.

In response, the United States passed the Radio Act in 1912, which was soon followed by international regulations. Mandatory round-the-clock (24/7) radio watch was introduced, and periods of so-called “radio silence” were established. During these intervals, all routine transmissions had to cease so that radio operators could listen exclusively for distress calls on the international emergency frequency of 500 kHz (and, starting in 1947, also on 2182 kHz). These strictly defined time periods became an unmistakable visual hallmark of Radio Room watches.

The Radio Room Special Edition reimagines this historical legacy as a state-of-the-art marine instrument. The textured dark blue dial features four distinctive highlighted three-minute sectors spaced at 15-minute intervals—exactly in accordance with the historical rules for radio silence. The dial is protected by a highly durable sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating and is set in a classic diver’s case. The design is complemented by a unidirectional rotating bezel (with 48 clicks), which features a premium ceramic insert and a 24-hour scale.

At the heart of the watch is the TMI NH34 mechanical movement with automatic winding and manual winding capability. A practical date window is located at the 3 o’clock position. The short blue hand with an arrow serves as a 24-hour second time zone indicator.

The model is water-resistant to 20 ATM (200 m), ensuring absolute reliability and protection even in the most demanding conditions on the open sea.
