PRIM, as a traditional brand of Czech watches, is known by almost everyone. However, it is less known that the very first
Czechoslovak watches made in Nové Město nad Metují were called Spartak. They were created at a time when the domestic watch industry was literally in its infancy. Thanks to the skill and imagination of the designers of that time, the
in 1954, they became one of only eight countries that were able to produce wristwatches at that time.
The Gold Edition is a demonstration of the mastery of New Town watchmakers. The current limited edition PRIM SPARTAK RESPEKT is a reminder of the model that put Czechoslovakia on the world watchmaking map seventy years ago. Tradition and respect for history were the motivation for ELTON Watchmaking, the current continuator of the New Town watchmaking tradition, to create a truly unique model.
Its uniqueness is underlined by the fact that it will be produced in only 12 pieces. The completely newly designed elegant case is made of white gold. Despite its subtlety, it won't get lost even on a larger wrist thanks to the imaginative shape of the case, which has made it possible to use a larger dial and cover glass. Dial made with a sophisticated technology
The pure minimalism of the design allows the unique dial in particular to stand out. It was inspired by the dial of one of the original models, which was created in several prototypes. This is the first time it has been used in modern history. The work of art itself is the product of many hours of precise and meticulous work by specialists from the New Town manufacture. The fine blasting first creates the velvet surface of the dial, then gilded with rose gold. The indexes stand out from the dial surface, distinctly shiny thanks to the gradual removal (cutting) of the material by diamond. Finally, a colourless lacquer is applied to the dial.
In the spirit of minimalism, the back cover of the watch is also decorated with a simple nostalgic inscription reminiscent of 70 years of SPARTAK watches. The limited-edition PRIM SPARTAK RESPEKT model is powered by a mechanical movement PRIM calibre 103.00 with manual winding, made directly in the ELTON watch manufactory.
There will be no shortage of significant anniversaries this year, with the next legend to be unveiled in February 2024.
In the autumn, the company will also commemorate 75 years of Czechoslovak watchmaking tradition. In 1949, the first steps towards the production of domestic wristwatches were initiated in Nové Město nad Metují, resulting in the Spartak model five years later. The new limited edition is therefore not the only legendary model that customers and fans of Czech PRIM wristwatches can look forward to. Already in February 2024, another model that has made an indelible mark in the history of Czech watchmaking will be presented.

The idea of producing Czechoslovak wristwatches first appeared immediately after the end of World War II. The effort of the management at that time was to limit the dependence on imports, especially from the western states of Europe. Wristwatches were not produced in Czechoslovakia before
In the fall of 1949, Adolf Martínek was entrusted with the task of building a new plant and preparing the serial production of wristwatches, who, in the unused building of the national committee in Nové Město nad Metují, together with the first 15 colleagues, embarked on a task that at the time was handled by only eight countries in the world.
Those interested bought the first Czechoslovak wristwatch in 1958. However, first it was necessary to choose the brand under which the wristwatch would be manufactured.
The PRIM brand was chosen, which at the time was also used for timepieces produced in other plants of the national company Chronotechna. Initially, an identical logo was used for the alarm clocks and wall clocks called the "loaf". Later, however, the graphic form was simplified to meet the requirements for modern dial design. The designer Josef Žid is the author of the so-called "standing" PRIM logo, which has been used on wristwatches since the 1970s. Until the 1990s, part of the designer's work was also the design of watches, which is why Josef Žid was entrusted with the design of the new brand. In addition, the need for a new graphic representation of the brand was supported by the fact that in 1969 the watch manufacturing plant in Nové Město nad Metují became completely independent and acquired the name it bears to this day - ELTON.
Until the 1990s, the New Town plant produced hundreds of thousands of wristwatches a year. However, after the so-called Velvet Revolution, watches from foreign brands began to flood Czechoslovakia - from luxury to the cheapest Asian ones. Interest in primkeys gradually declined and for a while it seemed that the production of Czech wristwatches no longer had a future.
Fortunately, it was possible to gradually revive interest in domestic products. Therefore, it was decided to convert the factory into small-scale production of the manufactory type. In 2008, the production of new mechanical movements began and ELTON hodinářská joined the ranks of important watch manufactures that rely on handwork, precision and an individual approach to the customer.
