The Orient Star Contemporary Sakigake RE-BQ0002L is a new addition to the Sakigake design project, which was created to mark the 75th anniversary of the Orient Star brand. The Japanese word “Sakigake” means “pioneer” and refers to the brand’s commitment to exploring new possibilities and forms of watch design. The model is based on the concept of “subtle strength,” which combines flowing curves with more distinctive structural elements.

The watch captivates with its functional simplicity and clean design. The ice-blue dial of the Orient Star RE-BQ0002L is adorned with a subtle sunburst finish that highlights the lacquered surface. It is complemented by newly designed skeletonized hands and applied faceted hour markers, reminiscent of flower petals. The model deliberately omits the traditional power reserve indicator and date display, resulting in a much more balanced appearance.
The highly legible dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.

An interesting feature is the sophisticated connection between the case and the steel bracelet. The lines of the specifically shaped lugs flow seamlessly into the bracelet, as if the entire structure were created in a single stroke. The design evokes the elegant silhouette of the traditional Japanese yumi bow, and it is precisely this combination of fluidity and strength that reflects the central idea of the Sakigake project. 

The steel case of the Orient Star RE-BQ0002L00B watch is complemented by a newly designed link bracelet, consisting of rounded center links and H-shaped links. The folding clasp has also been redesigned; it is now shorter and slimmer. The bracelet’s new design ensures a high level of comfort even when worn all day.

The watch is powered by Orient’s proprietary F7542 self-winding mechanical movement, which offers a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and a precision of +15 to −5 seconds per day. Of course, this movement also features manual winding and a hacking function that stops the seconds hand when setting the time. The movement, operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, can be observed through the transparent case back.

This model is water-resistant to 100 m, so there’s no need to remove the watch while showering or swimming. With a case diameter of 38.7 mm, this model is ideal for anyone looking for a smaller watch and can be an appealing choice not only for men but also for women.

The Orient Star RE-BQ0002L thus represents a significant shift in the design of the Contemporary series. It combines a traditional mechanical movement and Japanese attention to detail with a modern concept in which the case, bracelet, and dial form a single compact unit.
