At first glance, the German Laco Florenz 42 watch catches the eye with its classic pilot’s watch design, which is characterized by its clean lines and excellent readability—features that make it a favorite not only among watch enthusiasts.

The models in the Laco Pilot Original series are modern reinterpretations of pilot and observation watches from the 1940s. They are also known as B-Uhr, from the German word Beobachtungsuhren. The watches of that era stood out for their large 55-mm cases and also served as navigation instruments. Laco was among the five manufacturers (alongside IWC, Lange & Söhne, Stowa, and Wempe) authorized to produce these military watches in accordance with the requirements of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) (the former German Ministry of Aviation). It thus contributed to the creation of a watchmaking classic that has inspired many other manufacturers. With its Pilot Watches Original collection, Laco presents models manufactured according to the original designs and specifications.

The Laco Florenz is modeled after the original pilot’s watches used during World War II. The sandblasted steel case of the Laco Flieger Original Florenz, featuring straight lugs, is complemented by a black leather strap with contrasting stitching and prominent rivets. The side of the case bears the marking FL23883, which was the classification number; this marking can also be found on the caseback along with the unit number, manufacturer, and machine designation. On historical models, this information was inscribed on the inside of the caseback. This watch is water-resistant to 100 m (10 ATM), so it can handle swimming. The case diameter is 42 mm, and the lug-to-lug length is 50 mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on most men’s wrists.

Classic features of the Laco Florenz pilot’s watch include bold, easy-to-read hands and hour markers, as well as a large crown that is easy to operate even while wearing gloves. The perfectly legible Type A dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating and high scratch resistance.The iconic dial is logo-free, just like the original.The luminescentdial ensures better readability in low-light conditions. 

Power is provided by the Laco 210 manual-winding mechanical movement (based on the Sellita SW210 Elaboré—tested in three positions, accuracy of ±14 seconds per day) with a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The movement, operating at a frequency of 28,800 half-vibrations per hour, features a hacking function that stops the seconds hand when setting the time.
