The case of the Frederique Constant FC-980HE3H6 watch is made of stainless steel and features an alligator leather strap. Inside the case, the Swiss-made, in-house FC-980 mechanical movement with automatic winding operates reliably. It runs at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and features 33 jewels. The movement’s main feature is its tourbillon mechanism. The balance wheel, escape wheel, and pinion are housed in a cage that rotates around its axis (most commonly once per minute, as in this case). This beautifully decorated movement can be viewed through the transparent case back and, to some extent, through the Tourbillon aperture on the dial. The Tourbillon was invented by the legendary French watchmaker Abraham Louis Breguet in 1795.

The unique dial, made of the precious stone heliotrope, is protected by a sapphire crystal that is highly scratch-resistant. An anti-reflective coating ensures excellent readability even in bright sunlight. This model is water-resistant to 30 meters (3 ATM), so it can withstand basic contact with water, such as rain or washing your hands. 

The FC-980 in-house movement was developed by Frederique Constant in 2008. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 half-vibrations per hour (4 Hz), features 33 jewels, and consists of 188 components. The movement has an automatic winding mechanism with the option of manual winding via the crown and a hacking function, which stops the seconds hand during time setting. Its main feature is the royal horological complication known as the Tourbillon. This is a highly complex mechanism in which the balance wheel, escape wheel, and escape wheel are housed in a cage that rotates around its own axis (most often once per minute, as in this case). All of this can be observed through the tourbillon aperture, which Frederique Constant calls “Heart Beat.” The power reserve is 38 hours. The movement also features a day/night indicator, though this is not displayed on the dial of all models. This is Frederique Constant’s fifth in-house movement.

Currently, Frederique Constant has more than 30 in-house movements (including the so-called “royal complications” such as the tourbillon and perpetual calendar), which demonstrates the brand’s great sophistication and high standards.
