The Certina DS-2 Sea Turtle Conservancy C024.607.48.051.10 is a new watch for 2023 and wins its owners over with its simple retro design, clear appearance and precise workmanship.
With the first DS-2 model in 1968, Certina began a new chapter in the production of extremely reliable watches, continuing the highly successful - and also extremely stylish - story that began nine years earlier with the DS-1. The DS-2, as it is today, has earned acclaim for its "tonneau" case, an ellipse ending at each end.
Part of the DS-2 model series, the Certina DS-2 C024.607.48.051.10 features a date display at 3 o'clock. The detailed dial is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, which is resistant to any scratches. The watch case is made of titanium, a lightweight and non-allergenic material. The insert of the unidirectional rotating lunette is made of anodised aluminium. Thanks to the screw-down crown and back cap, the water resistance of the watch is up to 200m, making it suitable for swimming and diving.
The watch is powered by a Swiss mechanical movement with automatic winding ETA Powermatic 80.611, which has 25 stone settings and has a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 half-beats per hour). The flywheel of this movement is made of Nivachron alloy, which is more resistant to magnetic fields and temperature changes and results in better watch accuracy. The movement has a hacking function and a manual winding option.
The watch face features the logo of the Sea Turtle Conservancy, a sea turtle conservation organization. The Certina C037.407.18.040.10 is a special edition watch in honour of the collaboration with this organisation.
Like all Certina watches, it is equipped with the unique DS technology (Double Security System), which increases the durability, shock resistance and waterproof reliability of the watch (1. reinforced sapphire crystal, 2. seal on the crown shaft, 3. double seal on the crown, 4. special back cap seal, 5. reinforced back cap).
