The legendary Bulova Accutron, back on the scene in style, is expanding its range with another version. The Bulova Accutron Spaceview 2020 2ES6A005 uses revolutionary next-generation technology - an electrostatic-powered movement with an absolutely smooth running seconds hand.
The Spaceview 2020 is a unique timepiece that is once again ahead of its time, featuring a custom electrostatic-powered movement with an intricately designed stepper motor system. A cool detail is the rotors of the electrostatic motors that generate the energy and take the form of turbine blades. The 28-stone electrostatic movement is designated NS30-Y8A. The movements for the Accutron models are manufactured at the Miyota factory in Nagano Prefecture, Japan (Miyota is part of the Citizen Group, as is the Bulova brand). The movements are assembled under special conditions in a dust-free and temperature-controlled environment. Electrostatic energy is used to keep the seconds hand and the entire movement running smoothly, powered by a battery, while the minute and hour hands are powered by two conventional stepper motors.
An unnoticeable element of the watch is its dial, which is formed by a view of the movement. The circumference of the dial is a circle with minute markings. The dial is painted in black and green. The dial is protected by a convex sapphire crystal. The watch case is made of stainless steel and is complemented by a grey-black leather strap with the same coloured stitching. The diameter of the watch case is 43.5 mm. The water resistance of the watch is, given its purpose, sufficient 50 m.
The watch is equipped with an energy-saving function: the seconds hand automatically stops at the 12 o'clock position after 5 minutes of inactivity. The watch still keeps the exact time, the hour and minute hands are still moving. To start the seconds hand, move the watch for 3 to 5 seconds.
The Bulova Accutron model was created in honor of the Bulova Accutron tuning watch. The founder of the original Bulova brand was Czech-born Josef Bulova, who founded the J. Bulova Company in New York. He managed to build a large watch manufactory, which became famous all over the world mainly for its innovations (e.g. tuning watches), or for the production of watches that reached the moon.
