The Alpina Startimer Pilot Solarmetre AL-140BW3S26 watch will appeal not only to aviation enthusiasts but also to fans of versatile watches. Thanks to its features and design, it’s suitable not only for pilots but also for everyday wear. With this model, Alpina is reviving the Startimer line, which it first introduced in 2011.
The Alpina Startimer Pilot Solarmetre AL-140BW3S26 is powered by the AL-140 caliber, developed for Alpina by the Swiss movement manufacturer La Joux-Perret. Thanks to this movement, the watch recharges whenever it is exposed to light.Just one minute in the light provides enough energy for a full day, and a full charge allows for up to 10 months of operation without recharging. With the crown pulled out, the battery life can reach up to four years.
The watch case is made of stainless steel and has a diameter of 38 mm, which is a great size for most wrists. The case is complemented by a black leather strap with a pin buckle. All edges on the bezel, the middle section of the case, and the lugs are beveled. While the bezel features a circular satin finish and the lugs and middle section of the case have a vertical satin finish, all facets are polished to a mirror finish. The case back features an aviation motif paying tribute to the first pilots. The design is in the Art Deco style, characteristic of the period when Alpina introduced its aviation watches.
The easy-to-read black dial is designed in an aviation style. Its center is adorned with a grained surface featuring a velvety effect. Each numeral is crafted from a single piece of luminescent material and is applied to the dial, as is the Alpina logo at the 12 o’clock position. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal that offers maximum scratch resistance. This watch is water-resistant to 100 meters, so it can easily handle activities such as swimming.
