The Alpina Startimer Pilot Automatic AL-525BW4SB36 will appeal not only to aviation enthusiasts, but also to fans of universal watches. Its features and design make it suitable not only for pilots' wrists, but also for everyday wear. With this, Alpina revives the Startimer model line, which it first launched in 2011.
The Alpina Startimer Pilot Automatic AL-525BW4SB36 is powered by the AL-525 Swiss mechanical automatic movement (based on the La Joux-Perret movement) with 24 jewels, which operates at a frequency of 28,800 semi-frequencies per hour and features a date display at the six o'clock position. The winding reserve is an impressive 68 hours. The movement also has the option of manual winding by the crown and a hacking function (stopping the seconds hand when the time is set).
The case of the watch is made of stainless steel in black PVD finish. Its diameter is 40 mm, which is a great size for most wrists. The case is complemented by a light brown leather NATO strap with a thorn buckle. The legs and sides of the case have a vertical satin finish, the beveled edges are polished to a mirror shine and the lunette bears a circular satin finish. The case is then complemented by a large crown with pronounced fluting for better grip and handling. The back cap features an aviation motif paying tribute to the first pilots. The graphics are in the ArtDeco style, characteristic of the period when the Alpina brand launched its aviation watches.
The clear black dial is rendered in an aviation style. Its centre is decorated with a grained surface with a velvet effect. Each numeral is made of a single piece of luminescent material and is applied to the dial, as is the Alpina logo at the 12 o'clock position. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, which is extremely scratch-resistant. The water resistance of this watch is 100m, so it can easily handle swimming, for example.
