The Vostok Europe Iron Vilkas-Iron Wolf Limited Edition NH72-592A706 men's watch was made to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Vilnius.
TheIron Wolf is a mythical animal from the ancient legend of the founding of Vilnius, the capital of the old Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the current Republic of Lithuania. According to the legend, Grand Duke Gediminas (1275 - 1341) hunted in the sacred forest in the Šventagaris valley, near where the Vilnia River flows into the Neris River. Tired after a successful hunt for bison, the Grand Duke went to sleep and dreamt of a huge iron wolf standing on a hill, howling as loud and strong as a hundred wolves put together. When he awoke, the duke asked the pagan priest Lizdeik to explain the meaning of the dream.
"The iron wolf represents the castle and the city you will establish on this spot. This city will be the capital of the land of Lithuania, the seat of their rulers, and the glory of their deeds will be carried throughout the world," the priest told him. So Gediminas, obeying the will of the gods, built the city and gave it the name Vilnius, after the course of the Vilnia River.
The case of the Vostok Europe Geležinis Vilkas-Iron Wolf NH72-592A706 watch is made of stainless steel. Inside is a skeletonized Japanese NH72 mechanical movement with automatic winding and manual winding option. The movement is plated with the precious metal Ruthenium Ru44, a dark grey colour belonging to the platinum group and used mainly in luxury products. The rotor of the movement is finely decorated with the Vostok Europe logo. The power reserve is 41 hours.
The skeletonized dial with indexes in the shape of wolf's fangs reveals the open iron heart of the wolf guarding the towers of Gediminas Castle. The outline of the tower is shown at position 6. The hands and indices are covered with a luminescent layer of Superluminova. The face of the watch is transparent with the inscription 700 years of Vilnius. The dial is protected by a hardened K1 mineral glass with anti-reflective treatment and a luminescent drawing of an iron wolf.
Thanks to the 43 mm case diameter, the watch fits most men's wrists. The strap is made of matt stainless steel with a double butterfly clasp and metal rivets on the sides to resemble ancient armour.
The 20 ATM water resistance is supported by a screw-down crown, which is accentuated with a black PVD finish and found unconventionally at the 2 position. With the watch you can swim, dive or engage in various water sports.
The watch was produced in a limited edition of 700 pieces to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Vilnius.
