A unique design that defies all stereotypes. That’s exactly how we could describe the Nivada Grenchen watches from the Antarctic collection. Models from the Antarctic reissue boast a high-quality Swiss movement, modern features, and a choice of several strap options.
At first glance, the Antarctic 38 mm appears classic. But just turn it over, and the story changes. The Antarctic Erotic model hides a playful animated caseback that is revealed only when the watch is wound. A sophisticated mechanical watch with a discreet, slightly provocative detail rooted in horological tradition.
This edition, based on the 38mm case of the Antarctic model, features an 18-karat yellow gold finish, a domed white matte dial, and applied gold hour markers. The back of the case features two famous penguins—also plated with 18-karat gold—set against an ice floe in a shade of icy blue. They come to life only when the watch is wound. A miniature mechanical automaton, designed as an extension of the movement itself, transforms a simple gesture into a private, playful experience. This hidden animation remains invisible to onlookers and is intended solely for the wearer.
Inside, a modified hand-wound Soprod P054 caliber powers both the watch’s timekeeping and the animation itself. The mechanism has been redesigned so that the winding motion activates a cam system that converts rotational movement into a vertical animation on the case back, without compromising reliability or wearing comfort.
In addition to their mechanical sophistication, the Antarctic Erotic watches also carry symbolic significance. They build on the legacy of the Antarctic collection, which was tested during the U.S. Navy’s Operation Deep Freeze (1955–1956). At that time, the penguin became a historic symbol of the entire series—and this model reinterprets it in a modern spirit, while also contributing to a tangible impact beyond the world of watchmaking.
The model is available for pre-order only on October 9 and 10, 2026. Orders will be processed and shipped in early February 2027.
